Automotive Blog

If you've been dealing with a hot summer, it's time to take a close look at the radiator in your car. Your radiator can take quite a beating during the summer months, especially if you do a lot of driving. If you haven't been maintaining your radiator, the problems could get even worse. If your radiator isn't working properly, it could destroy your entire car. That's why you need to take care of radiator repairs right away. Read the list provided below. If you're dealing with any of the issues described here, take your car in for repairs right away.

Your Car Makes a Hissing Sound

When it comes to your car, you should always take strange noises seriously. Strange noises usually mean that there's something wrong with your car. Luckily, your radiator will give you quite a few noisy warning signs when there's something wrong with the cooling system. Some of those warning sounds include hissing, knocking, and rattling. If you hear any of those sounds coming from your radiator, get your car to a repair shop as quickly as you can.

Your Radiator Hose has a Leak

If you have a leaky radiator hose, don't try a temporary fix. Clamps and tape might stop the leak for a few days, but the problem will continue to get worse. In fact, temporary fixes can cause the radiator hose to rupture. That's because temporary fixes can't hold the pressure that builds up inside the radiator hose. If the radiator hose ruptures while you're driving, you'll get stranded on the side of the road. To avoid that risk, take care of the hose repairs right away.

Your Transmission Won't Shift

If you own a car with an integrated transmission cooler, you need to pay attention to radiator problems. Problems with the radiator could cause problems with your transmission. In fact, your transmission might not shift as smoothly as it should. Or, the transmission might freeze up altogether. If you've got problems with shifting, and you've noticed other radiator-related issues, get your car in for radiator repairs as soon as possible.

Your Fan Isn't Spinning

If your car has been overheating, take a look at the radiator fan. The radiator fan pulls air through the radiator, which helps to prevent overheating. If the fan isn't spinning, your radiator can't cool down. As a result, your car will run too hot. If your radiator fan stops spinning, visit an auto repair shop near you.
