Car Problmes You Can't Afford To Ignore

Automotive Blog

There are some things that can happen to your car that you might be able to ignore for a little while. For example, you might have the air conditioner stop working. When this happens, you can choose to drive around without air conditioning until you decide it's gone on long enough and you take the car in to have it fixed. Or, you may notice your wheels are out of alignment. While you don't want to drive your car for too long without having it realigned, you don't have to treat it as an absolute emergency. You don't need to have it tended to immediately before you keep driving.

However, there are a lot of issues that you need to act on right away so you don't end up in an accident or stranded along the side of the road. Here are some examples of car problems you want to have taken care of right away:

You hear unusual noises in the engine

Engine noises are scary because if you aren't a mechanic, then you likely have no idea what is causing the noise. While some noises may not be something too serious, other noises can be very bad. If you notice your car having a new noise from the motor area, then you want to get it into the shop as soon as you can.

There are sounds coming from the brakes

Your brakes can make different sounds, and none of them are good to hear. Your brakes are designed to make a squeaking sound as they wear. You can take this as a big hint that it is time to take the car in for a set of new brakes. If ignored, a much more worrisome sound comes and that is a grinding sound. At this point, your rotors are at risk of damage that can lead to the need to have them replaced. Also, there is the chance of brake failure, and this means you may find yourself in an accident.

You experience possible transmission issues

Your transmission is something you need to be very careful with. It can be difficult and expensive to replace, so it's always best to make sure you catch and deal with issues right away. Some things to watch for are an increased difficulty in shifting gears, shaking when shifting, or clunking or humming sounds that are coming from the transmission area. If you experience these issues, go to a transmission repair service immediately.
